14-Year-Old Boy Drives Against Traffic, Crashes Into Three Cars In Penang

Date:

A 14-year-old boy was behind the wheel when the car he was driving crashed into two other vehicles at Taman Chai Leng on Tuesday.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said police detected a video of the incident circulating on social media on Wednesday.

Police also received a report regarding the incident at about 8.47pm on Tuesday.

“Initial investigations found that the accident occurred at about 4.50pm in the Taman Chai Leng area and involved three cars at two separate locations.

“The incident happened when the car driven by the 14-year-old from Lorong Kurau 23 towards Jalan Kurau 1 crashed into a car parked on the road shoulder,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Nik Aminuddin said the teenager then continued driving before allegedly entering a one-way road in the opposite direction along Lebuh Kurau 5.

The vehicle subsequently crashed into another car travelling in the correct direction.

“All three cars were damaged in the accidents.

“However, no injuries were reported involving any of the parties,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Nik Aminuddin said investigations were ongoing and urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and prevent underage minors from driving.

“Such actions not only violate the law but can also endanger the safety of the driver and other road users.

“Police also advise the public not to speculate about the incident and to leave the investigation entirely to the police,” he said.

Earlier, a 45-second video showing an underage teenager driving a car went viral on social media.

The teenager was allegedly seen crashing into several vehicles and a pole near the Taman Chai Leng food court, while members of the public attempted to stop the car from continuing before discovering that the driver was only 14 years old.
