18-Year-Old Teen Climbs Lamp Post And Threatens Suicide After Argument With Mother

An 18-year-old teenager sparked a dramatic rescue operation after allegedly climbing a lamp post and threatening to take his own life following an argument with his mother.

The incident occurred at around 9am on Monday in Kampung Sinulihan Lama, Sepanggar, drawing the attention of residents and emergency responders.

According to reports, the teenager became emotionally distressed after being scolded by his mother and subsequently left home.

He was later spotted near the riverbank at the Sadong Jaya commercial area, where he climbed a lamp post and allegedly threatened to jump.

Witnesses said members of the public attempted to calm the teenager and persuade him to come down, but he reportedly refused to listen and remained perched on the structure for an extended period.

Concerned for his safety, bystanders contacted the Fire and Rescue Department to seek immediate assistance.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and launched efforts to negotiate with the teenager while preparing rescue measures.

Personnel from the Kota Kinabalu police and other relevant agencies also arrived to assist in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.

The incident attracted the attention of passers-by, with many gathering nearby as rescue teams worked to bring the situation under control.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the outcome of the rescue operation.

The case highlights the importance of timely intervention and community support when dealing with individuals experiencing emotional distress.
