A 22-year-old man was fined RM10,000 by the Magistrates’ Court after admitting to allowing his bank account to be used to receive RM10,000 linked to a scam.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan handed down the sentence against Dominic Unya Dunggat after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code.
He will face three months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the charge, Dominic had indirectly engaged in three transactions involving RM10,000 through his bank account without lawful purpose on July 25, 2025.
The court was told that the complainant had received a WhatsApp call from an unknown individual who claimed to be his relative from China. Believing the story, the victim was persuaded to provide a RM10,000 loan.
The money was subsequently transferred into Dominic’s bank account through three separate transactions at 11.35am, 11.45am and 11.47am.
The transactions involved RM4,950, RM4,950 and RM100 respectively.
The complainant later realised that he had been deceived and lodged a police report, leading to an investigation into the transactions.
Investigators subsequently discovered that Dominic had handed his bank card to a longtime friend who worked at an ice factory.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly prosecuted the case, while Dominic was not represented by a lawyer.
