32 Smuggled Cattle Worth RM448,350 Seized Near Rantau Panjang Border

Date:

The Tentera Darat Malaysia (TDM) detained three local men and seized 32 smuggled cattle along the banks of Sungai Golok near the Malaysia-Thailand border early today.

In a statement, the 2nd Infantry Division said the suspects, aged between 36 and 43, were arrested at about 5.15am during an operation in the area under the responsibility of the 8th Infantry Brigade.

Troops detected seven men herding cattle across the riverbank from Thailand into Malaysia via Sungai Golok. On the Malaysian side, an Isuzu lorry believed to be intended for transporting the livestock was also spotted, along with 10 other men suspected of waiting to facilitate the transfer process.

Security forces moved swiftly to cordon off the area, successfully apprehending three of the suspects. The remaining individuals fled by crossing back over Sungai Golok into Thai territory.

Authorities believe the 32 cattle were being smuggled into the country without valid documentation. The total value of the seized livestock and vehicles — which also included a Proton Saga and five motorcycles — is estimated at RM448,350.

The case underscores ongoing efforts by border security forces to curb cross-border smuggling activities in the northern region.
