A man has been arrested to assist investigations into alleged Facebook posts containing elements of sedition and insults towards Islam.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received a report at 12.38am on Friday from a man who came across a viral post on the social media platform.
He said initial investigations found that a Facebook account named “Fadzil Zahari” had shared several screenshots believed to have originated from another account, “Parthiban Ragu”.
According to him, the screenshots allegedly contained statements deemed insulting towards Islam, as well as offensive and vulgar remarks involving Allah SWT and Prophet Muhammad SAW.
“Based on the information received, a team of police officers arrested a 37-year-old local man at around 1am today in the Iskandar Puteri area,” he said in a statement.
Ab Rahaman said checks found that the suspect had no previous criminal record, while police also seized two mobile phones believed to be related to the investigation.
The suspect was brought before the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court, where the court approved a four-day remand order until Tuesday to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 298 of the Penal Code.
