A 53-year-old man was charged in court today with voluntarily causing hurt using a knife following a stabbing incident in Tampines.
According to a report by The Straits Times, police arrested Mohamed Sufian Mohamed Sabri within six hours of the attack, which occurred yesterday near the U Taste coffee shop in Tampines Central 1.
Court documents stated that the accused allegedly stabbed Mohd Hyril Beins, causing injuries to the victim’s right lower back and left forearm.
Witnesses told police they heard a disturbance in the tentage area used for open-air markets before seeing a man wearing a bloodstained shirt walk about 30 metres towards the MRT station entrance, leaving a trail of blood droplets behind.
When police officers and Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics arrived at the scene, the victim was still conscious and received immediate assistance.
Investigations also revealed that Sufian was serving a conditional remission order issued by the Commissioner of Prisons, effective from Oct 4 to Jan 13, 2026. Under the Singapore Prison Service’s regulations, inmates released on such orders must not reoffend during the remission period.
Sufian is now accused of breaching the remission order in connection with the Tampines stabbing.
If convicted of voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon likely to cause death, he faces up to seven years’ imprisonment, caning, and a fine. A breach of the remission order could also result in an enhanced sentence.
