80-Year-Old Man Mauled by Crocodile While Bathing, Villagers Discover Head

The severed head of an elderly man, believed to have been killed by a crocodile while bathing in a river at Kampung Siang-Siang Laut, Terusan, Lawas, was discovered late Tuesday night.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, villagers found the head about 500 metres from where the victim was last seen.

The department said they received a call at 11.20pm and dispatched a team from the Lawas fire station, led by operations commander Awang Adani Damit and senior commander Clarence D. Primus Tiandun, to the location about 22km away.

“At 12.45am, the family identified the object as the victim’s head, which was handed over to the police. The search and rescue operation resumed this morning,” the spokesperson confirmed.

The victim, identified as 80-year-old Tuah Lamat, was reported missing around 5.30pm while bathing in the river near a small bridge close to his home.

Villagers initially launched a search by boat before alerting the Fire and Rescue Department for further assistance.
