The night market at Taman Industri Alam Jaya, Bandar Puncak Alam, was the focus of an integrated enforcement operation involving several government agencies recently.
The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) said the operation was carried out together with the Selangor Immigration Department, Kuala Selangor District Health Office (PKD) and Kuala Selangor District Welfare Department (JKM) to ensure traders complied with business licence requirements, by-laws and existing regulations.
The operation, which began at 4pm and ended at 1am, involved 96 enforcement personnel from the participating agencies.
MPKS said the action was taken following continuous monitoring that found some traders had hired foreign workers, while some foreigners were also allegedly involved in running businesses at the night market.
The council said enforcement measures were necessary to prevent breaches of licensing conditions, ensure compliance with local laws and create a more organised, safe and fair business environment for traders operating legally.
During the operation, authorities inspected 34 businesses and issued 34 compounds to traders operating without licences under the MDKS 2007 Hawkers By-Laws.
One additional compound was issued to a licensed trader for breaching licence conditions by employing foreign workers.
MPKS said 26 notices ordering traders to stop operating and one warning notice were issued, while 27 premises found committing offences were ordered to close.
The operation also resulted in five seizure actions involving business equipment including tents, umbrellas, tables, weighing scales, fish containers, vegetable baskets and other items used in activities that violated regulations.
A total of 11 compounds were issued to traders who failed to maintain cleanliness at their business areas under the MDKS 2007 Hawkers By-Laws.
MPKS also reviewed traders’ licences and revoked one business licence after the licence holder was found to have violated conditions by employing foreign workers.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Immigration Department inspected 83 foreign nationals and detained 12 individuals for further investigation under immigration laws.
The Kuala Selangor District Health Office also conducted checks on food handlers and issued eight notices under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, involving seven cases under Regulation 32(1)(b) and one case under Regulation 36(1)(a).
The Kuala Selangor District Welfare Department rescued two adult women and a female child believed to be from Cambodia and not Malaysian citizens.
The three individuals were later handed over to the Selangor Immigration Department for further investigation and action according to the law.
Overall, the operation recorded 34 inspections, 27 business closures, one licence revocation, five seizure actions, 45 compounds and 34 notices for various offences.
