Another Crane Disaster In Thailand: Two Killed Near Bangkok Just A Day After 32 Die

Date:

A crane collapsed at a highway construction site in the outskirts of Bangkok on Tuesday, killing two people, police said, just a day after a separate crane accident in Thailand claimed 32 lives.

The incident occurred at the under-construction Rama II Expressway in Samut Sakhon province. Local police chief Sitthiporn Kasi told AFP that two people were killed at the scene and no injuries were reported.

According to local media, the crane collapsed in front of the Paris Inn Garden Hotel. Video footage showed thick clouds of dust and debris covering the site after the massive crane fell onto an elevated concrete structure.

The Rama II Expressway is home to several large-scale infrastructure projects, including tollway construction. The area has recorded multiple fatal accidents in recent years, earning it the grim nickname “Death Road.”

The latest incident came just one day after another deadly crane collapse in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast of Bangkok. On Monday, a launching gantry crane used in the construction of a Chinese-backed high-speed rail project fell onto a passenger train, killing 32 people.
