Anwar Urges Public To Switch From Waze To Local TuJu Navigation App

Date:

The government is encouraging Malaysians to use TuJu, a local navigation app developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), as an alternative to Waze amid concerns over data security.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move was proposed due to potential risks to the security of personal information and Malaysians’ movement data, noting that Waze is subject to Israeli government laws.

He said the matter was discussed during the National Cyber Security Committee’s third meeting of 2026, which he chaired on Tuesday to review emerging cyber threats and strengthen the country’s preparedness and digital sovereignty.

“Other matters discussed included the implementation of the Cyber Security Act 2024, MyDigital ID security, preparations for quantum computing threats through post-quantum cryptography (PQC), emerging threats involving autonomous artificial intelligence, and the protection of National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII),” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar stressed that the government could not compromise on the security of Malaysians’ data and identities.

He said the government was strengthening its integrated identity ecosystem, with MyKad serving as a physical credential and MyDigital ID supporting digital transactions, backed by stronger cyber protection measures, including preparations for future threats through PQC.

Anwar added that these efforts were essential to ensure the continued benefits of public service digitalisation without compromising national security, public trust and sovereignty.
