A teacher was injured while attempting to confiscate an unauthorised sharp object brought to school by a secondary student, prompting the school to dismiss students early as a precaution on Wednesday (Oct 21).
In a safety notice issued to parents, guardians, staff and students, the school said no other injuries had been reported following the incident.
The student was promptly restrained and escorted to the principal’s office, where they remained under supervision.
Police subsequently arrived and took over the matter, while the student’s parents were also contacted.
The school said it immediately contacted ambulance services, and the injured teacher was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The early dismissal was implemented as a precautionary measure following the incident.
