Authorities have foiled an attempt to allegedly divert 3.04 tonnes of subsidised packet cooking oil during a raid in Bukit Diman, Ajil, Hulu Terengganu, today.
The raid, conducted by enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) at around 9.30am, uncovered 200 boxes containing subsidised cooking oil worth RM103,500 in total.
A three-tonne cargo lorry and a Perodua Bezza were also seized to assist investigations into the suspected offence.
KPDN Terengganu director Mohd Mufsi Lat said the operation, carried out with the cooperation of the Terengganu Police Contingent Headquarters Special Branch, also resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including a woman.
“All the subsidised cooking oil was found stored inside a three-tonne cargo lorry parked in front of a house without a permit.
“Initial investigations found that the controlled goods were allegedly being prepared to be transported to the border before being smuggled into a neighbouring country,” he said at Pasar Besar Kedai Payang today.
Mohd Mufsi said preliminary investigations also found that the suspects allegedly obtained the subsidised cooking oil from two repackaging facilities for controlled goods located in Hulu Terengganu and Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus.
The seized items and vehicles will remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the full extent of the alleged diversion and intended smuggling operation.
