An 80-year-old man sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod by his 62-year-old neighbour in Jalan Perak here today.
Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said police received a report at 9.55am following an altercation between the two men at around 9.30am.
“Initial investigations found that the victim was assaulted by his neighbour with an iron rod in front of the victim’s house,” he said.
Abdul Rozak said the victim suffered serious injuries to his hands and legs and was receiving treatment at Penang Hospital.
Police have since arrested the 62-year-old suspect and seized an iron rod from his house, which is believed to have been used during the alleged assault.
He said the incident was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
“The suspect will be remanded tomorrow for further investigation,” he said.
