Date:

Police are investigating a car crash involving three men after a vehicle skidded and plunged into a river beneath Satok Bridge, near Kubah Ria, on Wednesday evening (Sept 10). The case is being probed under Section 44(1A)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs causing injury.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said one of the men, who was seated in the back, fled the scene immediately after the accident and has yet to be identified.

“The crash, which happened around 6.40pm, occurred when the BMW lost control, struck the concrete divider on the bridge, veered into the opposite lane, crashed into a metal barrier, and ended up in the river,” he said in a statement released by Sarawak Edition today.

The driver, a local man in his 30s, was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment, while the front passenger, a man in his 40s, was taken to Gita Police Station for safety.

If convicted, the driver faces a jail term of seven to ten years and a fine ranging from RM30,000 to RM50,000.

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer SM Hamdan Marali at 013-8452684, the Kuching District Police Traffic Office at 082-259900, or the nearest police station.
