A suspected brake failure on a lorry led to a deadly collision involving four vehicles at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza on the Kajang SILK Highway on Saturday, claiming the life of a one-year-four-month-old baby boy.

Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the crash occurred at about 10.50am when the 42-year-old lorry driver was travelling from Semenyih towards Putrajaya.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene. Seven other victims sustained injuries and were rushed to Kajang Hospital, Serdang Hospital and KPJ Kajang for treatment.

Naazron added that the lorry driver has been arrested and will be remanded to assist investigations. Checks revealed he has two previous criminal records, two drug-related records and four outstanding summonses.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
