A female cashier endured a terrifying ordeal after she was threatened with a knife during a robbery at a convenience store in Taman Maju, Jasin, on Thursday night.

Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Robert said police received a report about the armed robbery at around 8.50pm, with the incident believed to have taken place at approximately 8.10pm.

The 40-year-old cashier was working at the payment counter, while several other employees were also inside the store at the time.

Based on CCTV footage, a man wearing a motorcycle helmet entered the premises pretending to be a customer. He picked up a bottle of mineral water before approaching the counter.

The suspect then pulled out a knife and threatened the cashier before grabbing cash from the register and stealing the victim’s personal belongings.

He fled the scene with an accomplice who had been waiting outside on a blue-and-white Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle.

Police estimated the total losses at around RM1,200, including RM60 from the cash register, a mobile phone, RM300 in cash from the victim’s sling bag, and several personal documents.

A 48-second CCTV clip of the robbery has since gone viral on Facebook, showing the helmeted suspect entering the store, posing as a customer and confronting the cashier at the payment counter.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
