A 45-year-old Chinese national has been sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM10,000 after offering a RM500 bribe to a Malaysian police officer to avoid an inspection.
The Sessions Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday after He Ruqiang pleaded guilty to one charge before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud, according to a statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He was accused of corruptly giving the money to a government agent, a police officer serving with the General Operations Force (GOF) at the Royal Malaysia Police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
The bribe was allegedly offered to induce the officer not to proceed with an inspection of He in a room at Jalan Bestari 2A/KU7, Kapar Bestari Industrial Area, at 10.50am on April 6.
The charge was brought under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin and prosecuting officer Mohd Alimi Mustapha handled the prosecution, while He was represented by lawyer Muhamad Aizat Fakri.
