Consultancy Boss Remanded Over Alleged RM30,000 Bribe To Secure Defence Industry Funding

Date:

A consultancy company owner in her 60s has been arrested and remanded for allegedly soliciting and receiving about RM30,000 in bribes to help secure grants and loans for two companies in the arms and defence industry.

The grants and financing were allegedly sought through a Bumiputera entrepreneur financing scheme.

The woman was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at about 6.45pm on Sept 3 in Kuala Lumpur.

She was subsequently remanded for seven days, from Sept 4 to 10, following an application by the MACC at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court. Magistrate Aliaa Anwar granted the remand order yesterday.

Preliminary investigations found that the alleged offence took place in March last year.

The suspect is believed to have solicited and received around RM30,000 from the owner of a company involved in the arms and defence industry.

Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohamad Zakkuan Talib confirmed the arrest when contacted.

He said the investigation was being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which covers the corrupt solicitation or receipt of gratification as an inducement or reward.
