A delivery worker in Bandung was left shocked after discovering that a cardboard box he had been hired to transport allegedly contained the body of a woman.
According to Indonesian news outlet AFI, the worker, identified as Tegar, said he accepted a delivery request from a 31-year-old man known as SDS to transport a box reportedly containing iron and clothing.
Tegar collected the package at around 10am local time the day before yesterday in the Dunguscariang area of Andir district, Bandung, with the delivery route leading towards Kopo, Banten.
The box had been left by the roadside when Tegar arrived. As it was heavy, SDS asked him to help load it onto his pickup truck.
Tegar said he initially had no reason to suspect anything and simply helped place the box onto his vehicle.
However, he became uneasy during the journey after noticing an unusual smell coming from inside the package.
He repeatedly asked SDS about the contents, but the man insisted that the box only contained iron and clothes. SDS also allegedly prevented Tegar from opening it, further raising his suspicions.
Tegar eventually stopped the vehicle and asked SDS to remove the box before leaving the area and reporting the incident to police.
Police later inspected the cardboard box and discovered the body of a 41-year-old woman identified as SM inside.
SDS allegedly fled towards Palembang after the discovery, but police arrested him less than six hours later while he was travelling to the city.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, including efforts to establish the motive behind the woman’s alleged murder.
