Man Arrested for Credit Card Theft on Bangkok-Hong Kong Flight

Hong Kong police have detained a 55-year-old man for allegedly stealing the credit cards of two passengers aboard a flight arriving from Bangkok on Tuesday.

Authorities said the passengers noticed their belongings were missing from the overhead compartments and reported the theft. The suspect, a mainland Chinese national, remains in custody as the Airport District Police continue their investigation.

Cabin theft has been on the rise in Hong Kong. In the first 10 months of 2024, the city recorded 169 cases involving stolen property valued at HK$4.32 million (US$555,000). In a separate incident in September, two mainland Chinese men were arrested for allegedly stealing HK$40,000 (US$5,100) worth of passengers’ property on flights from Malaysia and Switzerland.
