The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has taken enforcement action against 22 unlicensed hawkers, including foreign nationals, during an integrated operation around Pasar Pudu, Jalan Yew, yesterday.
DBKL said the Integrated Operation (Market) was conducted at 6am in collaboration with the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), focusing on traders involved in the sale of wet goods, vegetables, fruits and other grocery items without proper licences.
According to authorities, inspections were carried out on hawkers and foreign individuals found conducting business without authorisation and violating work permit conditions.
As a result, action was taken against 22 unlicensed traders comprising 13 foreign nationals and nine local individuals who were found operating without permits and obstructing public spaces.
DBKL said enforcement included seizure and removal of trading goods as well as issuance of compound notices to unlicensed stall operators under the relevant regulations.
The action was carried out under the Hawkers Licensing (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) By-Laws 2016 and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
All seized items, including vegetables, fruits, general goods, trolleys, baskets and other equipment, were sent to DBKL’s seizure storage facility for documentation and record purposes.
Separately, the Immigration Department detained 16 individuals comprising three Bangladesh nationals, 12 Indonesians and one Myanmar national during the same operation.
They were found to be residing in Malaysia without valid passes or permits, and some were believed to have entered the country without proper documentation.
All detainees were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for further action.
