A deaf and mute man has expressed disappointment after a food factory allegedly withdrew a job offer despite him completing the preparations requested by the company’s human resources (HR) department.
In a post shared on Threads by user Themuazzins, the man claimed he had been asked to move into a workers’ hostel and undergo a typhoid vaccination at his own expense, only to be told the following day that the factory would not hire deaf and mute workers.
He said he had informed HR about his disability before accepting the job, which had given him hope after months of unemployment.
“I am so sad today. After being unemployed for months, I was accepted for a job at a food factory as a deaf and mute worker. I had already informed HR that I am deaf and mute,” he wrote.
“HR asked me to move into the hostel yesterday and get a typhoid vaccination. I got the injection and went to the hostel, but today I was suddenly told the factory does not accept deaf and mute workers.”
The man said he had spent money on the vaccination, fuel and other expenses. He had also bought a new door knob and fan blades after discovering that the room’s door knob was broken, intending to repair the room himself.
He added that he had cleaned the room because he could not stand living in a messy environment. As the apartment block had no lift, he carried his belongings up to the third floor before having to bring everything back down the following day.
His experience was made worse when a person he alleged was the hostel supervisor asked to borrow money shortly after he arrived. He said he agreed because he feared refusing could lead to an argument.
The man claimed HR and the person in charge had failed to provide him with answers, leaving him with no choice but to return home.
“I eventually decided to go home. Please pray that I will find a job somewhere,” he wrote.
The post attracted numerous responses from Threads users, with some offering him employment opportunities.
One user, Dahlianorani, invited him to work at a factory with hostel accommodation within walking distance of the workplace. Another user, Qushayry1, offered him a job cleaning crystals at a lighting factory with air-conditioning, if he was based in Kuala Lumpur or the Klang Valley.
Others offered words of encouragement and wished for him to find a suitable workplace that would accept him and provide a supportive environment.
