‘Don’t Speculate’: Lawyer Urges Public To Respect Hannah Yeoh’s Privacy After Divorce

Date:

A lawyer has urged the public to refrain from speculating about the divorce of Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh and her husband, as the couple navigate the end of their 18-year marriage.

Kiang Jau Sang said the divorce was a private matter and called on the public to give Yeoh and her husband space instead of jumping to conclusions about the reasons behind their separation.

In a Facebook post, Kiang said the couple had been married for nearly two decades and have two children together.

“I hope the public doesn’t speculate over the reason for their divorce. This is a private matter and we shouldn’t jump into conclusions. Instead, we need to give them space,” he wrote.

Kiang, who described himself as a divorce lawyer, also praised Yeoh for remaining down-to-earth despite her political position, describing her as “deeply likable, humble, and approachable”.

He also criticised people who took pleasure in news of others’ divorces, saying such reactions were inappropriate.

“As a divorce lawyer, I know some rejoice whenever they see others getting divorced. These are twisted individuals. We shouldn’t use someone else’s bad news to cover our shortcomings in life,” he wrote.

Kiang also offered to assist Yeoh should she require help in the future, saying he respected her decision and wished her and her family well.

At the time of writing, Yeoh had not publicly issued a statement addressing the reported divorce.
