A woman in her 70s was slashed on the hand with a parang by her intoxicated husband following a dispute over the television volume at Taman Desa Sejahtera on Saturday.
The incident happened at about 9.30pm, leaving the woman with a 1cm wound on her right hand.
She was taken to Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said police received a public report about a woman who had been injured after allegedly being attacked by her husband.
“Police rushed to the scene following the information and arrested the suspect, who is also in his 70s,” he said in a statement today.
Yusof said initial investigations found that the incident began with a misunderstanding after the victim turned up the television volume.
“The suspect, who was drunk, then slashed the victim once on her right hand with a parang,” he said.
He added that police had opened an investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
