‘No Need To Bow To Pressure’: Loke Urges Anwar To Resist Calls For Early GE16

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been urged to resist calls for an early dissolution of Parliament and allow the 15th Parliament to complete its full term before the 16th General Election (GE16).

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the party’s position remained that Anwar should continue leading the Madani government for as long as he commands a majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said the prime minister should use the remaining 15 months of the current parliamentary term to push ahead with government reforms and implement the shared agenda before the 15th Parliament expires in December 2027.

“After the Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections, we have heard many calls from various parties and quarters urging the prime minister to dissolve Parliament to pave the way for GE16.

“Our position is that as long as Anwar has a majority in the Dewan Rakyat, there is no need to bow to any pressure to hold GE16,” he said.

Loke also said DAP would support Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, continuing to lead the government until the end of the 15th Parliament’s term.

“We also urge, hope and support Anwar, as Pakatan Harapan chairman, to continue leading the government until the end of the 15th Parliament’s term,” he said when officiating the DAP Women’s Congress in Putrajaya today.

Also present were DAP Wanita chief and deputy chairman Teo Nie Ching, her deputy Yeoh Bee Yin, and DAP Wanita vice-chiefs Yeong Syefura Othman and P. Kasturiraani.
