Eight men have been remanded for seven days to assist investigations into the death of a 49-year-old local man whose body was discovered at an oil palm plantation in Banting, Kuala Langat, last Sunday.
Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said the suspects comprised both Malaysians and foreigners aged between their 20s and 70s.
“So far, there have been no further arrests and investigations are still ongoing,” he said when contacted today.
Police believe the theft of plantation equipment and oil palm fruits could have been the motive behind the alleged murder.
The case came to light after personnel from the Internal Security and Public Order Division of the Kuala Langat district police headquarters received information that a man had been found unconscious at the plantation at about 5pm.
The victim was subsequently found dead at the location, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and determine the involvement of the eight remanded individuals in the case.
