An eight-year-old girl was killed in a tragic road accident after the motorcycle she was travelling on with her parents became involved in a collision along Jalan Cheras on Wednesday morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at approximately 8.18am and involved two motorcycles — a SYM Husky SE and a Yamaha Y15ZR — as well as a Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the SYM Husky SE, ridden by a man accompanied by his 35-year-old wife and their daughter, was believed to have been filtering between lanes during heavy traffic. The rider reportedly lost control before crashing into the rear of the Honda CR-V, which was travelling in the right lane.
A Yamaha Y15ZR rider travelling behind was unable to avoid the collision and subsequently struck the motorcycle before falling onto the road.
The impact proved fatal for the young girl, who was riding as a pillion passenger. She suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl’s father sustained injuries to his waist and both legs, while her mother suffered injuries to her right hand. Both are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM).
Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda CR-V escaped unharmed. The 47-year-old Yamaha Y15ZR rider sustained minor injuries to his left knee.
Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The tragedy has once again highlighted the dangers faced by motorcyclists navigating through congested traffic conditions.
