An elderly man died after he was hit by a factory van while allegedly crossing the road at Jalan Kesang Pajak here early this morning.
The 69-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6.20am after suffering severe head injuries in the accident.
Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Robert said initial investigations found that the incident involved a factory van driven by a 25-year-old man travelling from Kesang towards Batu Berendam.
He said the driver was believed to have failed to notice the victim crossing the road from right to left as the area was still dark during the early morning hours.
“The impact caused the victim to suffer serious head injuries and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
“Initial investigations found that weather conditions were good at the time of the incident, but visibility was affected due to the darkness,” he said.
Lee said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit at Jasin Hospital for post-mortem examination.
He added that the van involved had been seized for inspection at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) as part of the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Lee also urged anyone with information regarding the incident to assist investigations by contacting Investigating Officer Inspector Marwan Shafiq Mohd Latfi at 011-11127533 or visiting the nearest police station.
