A factory worker’s plan to return to his hometown ended in tragedy after he was killed in a road accident at Kilometre 144.8 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound on Friday morning.
Pontian district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the accident occurred at about 8.15am and involved the 18-year-old victim who was riding a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle from Puncak Alam, Selangor, to his village in Ayer Baloi, Pontian.
He said initial investigations found that the victim is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle before crashing into a road barrier on the left side of the highway.
“The motorcycle then skidded, causing the victim to be thrown into a drain. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The victim’s body was later sent to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for further action. Police are also conducting investigations to determine the actual cause of the accident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Authorities have repeatedly reminded road users, especially motorcyclists, to remain cautious while travelling, as accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles often carry a higher risk of serious injuries.
