A woman was killed after the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car carrying four family members along Jalan Kampung Kuala Bakong, Kuala Ketil, yesterday.
The 59-year-old victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Baling district police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe said the Traffic Inquiry Office at the Baling District Police Headquarters received a public report regarding the road accident involving a car and a motorcycle.
He said a traffic police team was immediately deployed to the scene to conduct investigations.
Preliminary findings showed that the victim was riding her motorcycle from Kuala Ketil towards Kampung Surau Bakai, while the car, driven by a 32-year-old man with his 34-year-old wife and two children aged four years and two months, was travelling in the opposite direction from Baling towards Merbau Pulas.
However, investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the car driver and passengers were not injured.
The victim’s body was later sent to the Forensic Unit of Baling Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
If convicted, the offence carries imprisonment of not less than 10 years and up to 20 years, as well as a fine between RM5,000 and RM20,000.
