Female Rela Member Dies In Motorcycle-Car Collision

A female Malaysian Civil Defence Volunteer Corps (Rela) member died after the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car in Kampung Charok Kelian, Baling, on Friday.

The victim, Rohani Hamid, 55, from Kampung Charok Gorok, was riding her motorcycle when the crash occurred at about 6pm.

Baling district police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe said police received a call from a member of the public at about 6.09pm regarding the accident involving the Rela member.

Initial investigations found that Rohani was travelling from Kampung Charok Gorok towards Kampung Dalam Wang, while the car involved was being driven by a 41-year-old man travelling from Sik towards Baling.

“The victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was detained for further investigation,” he said.

The victim’s remains were taken to the Forensic Unit at Baling Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of between two and 10 years, as well as a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
