Three Family Members Killed As Fire Tears Through Two Houses

Date:

A husband and wife and their son were killed after they became trapped when two neighbouring houses caught fire in Desa Mawar 2, Muadzam Shah, in the early hours of Saturday.

Two other children from the same family, along with six occupants from the neighbouring house, escaped the blaze safely.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 4.11am.

He said a team from the Muadzam Shah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), supported by personnel and a fire engine from BBP Chini, was dispatched to the location, about three kilometres from the station.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the fire involved two adjoining houses.

“One of the houses was completely destroyed while the other suffered about 70 per cent damage and involved the victims,” he said.

Mohd Salahuddin said the badly damaged house was occupied by a family of five, including the three victims, while the neighbouring house was occupied by six family members who all managed to escape unharmed.

Firefighters battled the flames using two water hose lines from the fire engine pump and two hose lines connected to a fire hydrant.

The assisting team from BBP Chini also carried out overhaul operations and searched the premises for victims who might have been trapped inside.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by rapidly spreading residential fires, particularly when occupants are asleep and have limited time to escape.
