Firemen Rescue Man Trapped Six Metres Up A Rambutan Tree

Date:

Quick action by firefighters today saved a man who became trapped atop a rambutan tree more than six metres high in Kampung Air Melintang Besar after a fallen branch left him unable to climb down.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division, John Sagun Francis, said the department received an emergency call at 12.36pm, prompting a team from the Tasek Gelugor Fire and Rescue Station to respond.

“The 26-year-old man had climbed the rambutan tree to cut a branch, which then fell on him, causing back pain and preventing him from descending,” he said in a statement.

Firefighters used a ladder to safely bring the victim down. He was conscious but suffered a spinal injury and was handed over to a Health Ministry medical team for further treatment.
