Five areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am today.
According to data released by the Department of Environment (DOE) through the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the highest unhealthy reading was recorded at the Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD), with an API of 189.
Other areas recording unhealthy air quality were Kuching at 175, Samarahan at 170, Sri Aman at 158 and Bintulu at 108.
Meanwhile, eight other areas in Sarawak recorded moderate API readings. They were Mukah (95), Samalaju (90), Miri (86), ILP Miri (84), Sibu (80), Sarikei (79), Kapit (74) and Limbang (70).
Under the API classification, readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, while 51 to 100 are considered moderate. Readings from 101 to 200 indicate unhealthy air quality, 201 to 300 are very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
