A 16-year-old Form Four student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a Proton Wira that lost control and veered into the opposite lane in Setiu, Terengganu, on Wednesday night.
The victim, Che Muhammad Alif Ikhwan Che Amat, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Penarik, suffered severe head and multiple body injuries in the crash, which occurred at about 8.50pm along Jalan Kampung Mangkuk.
Setiu district police chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the teenager was travelling towards Kampung Penarik when the accident happened.
“As the victim was riding his Honda AFS110 motorcycle, he was struck by a Proton Wira driven by a 19-year-old man.
“The car, which was travelling from the direction of Kampung Penarik, is believed to have suddenly lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the victim’s motorcycle,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Zahril Asri said medical personnel confirmed that Che Muhammad Alif Ikhwan had died at the scene.
His body was later taken to the Forensic Unit of Setiu Hospital for further action.
The driver of the Proton Wira, who sustained injuries in the crash, was rushed to the emergency department of the same hospital for treatment.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
