Frozen Food Factory Destroyed In Tawau Fire, No Casualties Reported

A frozen food processing factory at Batu 4, Jalan Apas here was destroyed in a fire yesterday, but no casualties were reported.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.59pm.

He said 31 firefighters, along with several vehicles including Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), Compact Fire Rescue Tender (CFRT), Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), water tanker and support vehicles, were deployed to the scene.

Firefighters who arrived at about 6.11pm found that the blaze involved a non-permanent factory structure measuring about 118 feet by 110 feet, which had been completely destroyed by fire.

Jemishin said the firefighting operation was carried out using two hose lines with water supplied from fire engines and nearby fire hydrants.

The fire was brought under control at 7.49pm, while cooling and monitoring operations continued to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire before the operation ended completely at 10.12pm.

No victims were involved in the incident, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
