Gold Shop Robbery Rumours Send Genting Highlands Into Chaos, But Police Yet To Confirm

Date:

Social media users were left buzzing today following claims that a gold shop in Genting Highlands had been robbed, with some alleging that the popular resort was temporarily placed under movement restrictions.

The claims were shared by a Threads user, @j00raaaa, who uploaded a video showing a tense situation inside a shopping centre in the area.

“Genting gold shop was robbed. Genting is temporarily on lockdown,” the user wrote.

The footage showed two individuals dressed in black carrying what appeared to be a large sack while moving through the shopping centre. However, the video did not capture the alleged robbery itself.

In response to questions from other users, the account owner claimed that visitors were temporarily not allowed to leave and that movement restrictions had been imposed around Genting Highlands.

Another Threads user, @shaqiera_abhamid, also claimed to have encountered severe traffic congestion while travelling down from Genting Highlands after checking out of her accommodation at around noon.

She said her vehicle had still not reached the foothill area by 1pm due to the heavy congestion.

“Update at 1.15pm, there is a police roadblock near the checkpoint. After that, we were still stuck. There may be another police roadblock further down,” she claimed.

Meanwhile, another user, @faridaspar, alleged that she had seen a roadblock where vehicles were being stopped and inspected.

“I saw a roadblock. They checked every car and the boots, but they were taking quite a long time to let vehicles through. Is there an incident?” she wrote.

Another Threads user, @fennylow_, claimed that police had informed her about a major robbery in the area and said she had been caught in traffic congestion for around 30 minutes.

The claims have since attracted attention online, with users speculating about the reason behind the alleged roadblocks and traffic restrictions.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the authorities so far regarding the alleged robbery or whether any temporary movement restrictions were imposed in connection with the incident.
