A 67-year-old retiree has been arrested after allegedly confessing in a video to raping his 13-year-old granddaughter, a revelation that has shocked family members and sparked a police investigation.
In the one-minute-and-four-second video, the man is heard admitting to the offence, saying: “Yes, I did it.” The recording also captures the victim’s mother crying in distress, repeatedly shouting “Allahuakbar” as the confession unfolds.
The suspect, identified as the girl’s paternal grandfather, had reportedly been living with the teenager following her parents’ divorce. In the same video, he is said to have urged family members to lodge a police report against him.
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday and is currently under a six-day remand to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.
Police said the alleged abuse only came to light after the girl’s mother noticed her daughter exchanging messages with a friend. Concerned by the conversation, she questioned the teenager about it.
Although the girl was initially reluctant to speak, she eventually disclosed that she had allegedly been raped by her grandfather after being repeatedly pressed for answers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged abuse occurred on multiple occasions throughout last year, with the last reported incident taking place in December.
Authorities also confirmed that the victim’s mother relocated her daughter to a northern state in April. Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
