The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds affecting parts of Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, with conditions expected to persist until noon today.
In its advisory, METMalaysia said the affected areas include Serian in Sarawak, the entire Federal Territory of Labuan, as well as Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, the West Coast and Kudat districts in Sabah.
The department explained that the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, either occurring or expected to last for more than an hour.
Such weather conditions are often associated with sudden downpours, reduced visibility and strong winds, which may pose risks to outdoor activities and road users.
METMalaysia added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term advisory, typically valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time of issuance, and is subject to updates based on current weather developments.
