Immigration Conducts Major Raid, Detains 86 Foreigners In Klang

Date:

The Immigration Department of Malaysia detained 86 foreign nationals during a large-scale enforcement operation (Ops Mega) carried out at Plaza GM in Bandar Botanik, Klang, yesterday.

The coordinated operation was conducted under a Whole-of-Government approach involving several enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), the National Registration Department (JPN), and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

According to the department, the operation began at about 5pm and involved 125 enforcement officers, following intelligence gathering and public complaints collected over a two-week period.

A total of 50 business premises and 327 individuals were inspected, resulting in the detention of 86 foreign nationals from China, Cambodia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

During the operation, several foreign nationals attempted to flee, but were successfully stopped through swift coordination by enforcement teams, including the use of drones to monitor possible escape routes.

The Immigration Department also issued 11 Form 29 summonses to Malaysian citizens to assist in further investigations.

Authorities said such operations will continue from time to time to ensure compliance with the law and to curb the presence of undocumented migrants in the country.
