Jealousy Believed To Be Motive In Woman’s Murder At Penang Flat, Police Say

Date:

Preliminary police investigations have found that the woman who was discovered murdered at her first-floor unit at Flat Sri Murni, Sungai Dua, Penang last Wednesday is believed to have been killed due to jealousy.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said further investigations are ongoing following the arrest of three men, including a foreign national, who are currently being held to assist in the probe.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and we believe that with the detention of the three men, the case can be resolved. At this stage, there have been no additional arrests or new suspects believed to be involved,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

Azizee added that police do not rule out the possibility that the murder was linked to a romantic relationship and jealousy. However, he stressed that further details could not be disclosed as investigations are still in progress.

The three suspects, aged between 38 and 45, are self-employed individuals and labourers. They have been remanded until 11 February to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Previously, media reports stated that the 41-year-old victim, who worked as a school van driver, was found lying on a bed in one of the rooms in the house with slash wounds to her neck. The victim was also believed to be a single mother.

It is understood that neighbours alerted police at about 1.40pm after the woman failed to respond despite the door to her home being open while the grille gate remained locked, raising suspicion that led to the discovery of the body.
