Johor Students’ Hostel Broken Into While They Slept

Date:

A temporary accommodation building for Johor students in Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt, was broken into between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. local time while the students were asleep.

According to Johor State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, no injuries were reported. Several rooms were entered and only cash was reported missing.

“Egyptian police are at the scene and investigations are under way. Johor’s Education Attaché and the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo have already met with the students to ensure their welfare is taken care of,” he said.

Mohd Fared added that the Johor government has instructed security at the building to be strengthened and is cooperating with the property owner to prevent similar incidents.

He also urged parents and families of the students to remain calm and trust the Egyptian authorities to carry out their investigations.

“The Johor Education Attaché in Egypt is available to be contacted to manage this matter. Updates will be provided from time to time,” he said in a Facebook post.
