JPJ Kedah Nabs Foreign Rider Without Licence After Attempted Escape

Date:

A Rohingya man’s attempt to flee enforcement officers in an effort to avoid being caught for riding without a valid driving licence ended in failure during an operation by the Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The incident took place at Jalan Simpang Empat in Tokai yesterday, where the man, a Myanmar national, was detained by the JPJ Kedah Motorcycle Enforcement Unit (Falcon).

JPJ Kedah Director Stien Van Lutam said the foreign national was waiting at the Simpang Empat traffic light junction when he attempted to escape upon noticing the enforcement team.

However, he was quickly apprehended by officers at the scene.

He reportedly gave an excuse that he was on his way to the market during questioning.

Checks revealed that the man did not possess a valid driving licence, prompting immediate enforcement action under existing laws.

His motorcycle was also seized and sent to the JPJ Vehicle Storage Depot in Alor Setar for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
