Eight Myanmar Nationals Nabbed In Illegal Hunting Bust At Kuala Krai Durian Plantation

Date:

Eight Myanmar nationals, including two women, were arrested in a joint enforcement operation conducted at a durian plantation in Kampung Mia, Kuala Krai, covering an area of about 24 hectares.

The operation, known as Ops Bersepadu Khazanah, was carried out by the Kuala Krai District Police Headquarters (IPD) together with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN), following public intelligence.

Kuala Krai District Police Chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the operation began at midnight and ended at about 6am, and also discovered a baby boy and a baby girl with the group.

Authorities also seized an air rifle and two spears believed to have been used for illegal hunting activities.

Further inspection uncovered various wildlife parts, including six units of claws, 12 units of fangs, seven units of bones, six other suspected wildlife body parts, as well as a container holding meat believed to be from wild animals.

All suspects and seized items are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, Section 7(1) of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1958, and the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716).

Police said the success of the operation reflects strong cooperation between enforcement agencies as well as valuable information from the public.

Authorities also stressed that firm action will be taken against anyone involved in wildlife-related crimes, while urging the public to continue providing information to help protect the country’s natural heritage.
