Seven Yemeni men, including five public university students, are being investigated after a video allegedly showed them performing dangerous stunts from two moving vehicles along Jalan Sungai Besi.
City police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed that the video circulating on Threads was genuine and showed the group putting themselves at risk while the vehicles were in motion.
He said preliminary investigations established that the incident took place at about 12.30am on Friday as the two vehicles travelled along Jalan Sungai Besi towards Jalan Bukit Bintang.
According to police, passengers in both vehicles were seen leaning their bodies outside the windows and sitting on the vehicle door windows while the cars were moving.
“The group comprised seven Yemeni men aged between 23 and 26. Five are public university students in Kedah, while the other two are university graduates,” Zamzuri said in a statement.
Police questioning of the drivers found that the group allegedly carried out the stunts as a form of entertainment while celebrating a friend’s wedding.
While the acts may have been intended as part of the celebration, police stressed that such behaviour on a moving vehicle could put both the individuals involved and other road users in danger.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code, which covers negligent or reckless acts that endanger the life or personal safety of others.
Those convicted under the provision can face up to three months in jail, a fine of up to RM500, or both.
Police are appealing to members of the public and witnesses who may have information about the incident to assist with the investigation.
