The Kelantan government has reaffirmed its firm stance against illegal occupation of state land following the demolition of four unauthorised houses in Pechong, Mukim Bandar Tanah Merah, yesterday.
State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said the structures were built illegally on land belonging to the Kelantan Land Commissioner (PTK).
He said enforcement action was taken after authorities discovered unapproved developments on government-owned land, including several structures that were allegedly rented out to Rohingya residents.
Hilmi said prior to the operation, notices and eviction orders had been issued under existing legal provisions to allow those involved sufficient time to take the necessary action.
“The operation, led by the Kelantan Land and Mines Office (PTG) together with the Tanah Merah Land and District Office (PTJTM), started at 10.30am and involved 108 officers and personnel from various agencies.
“Four houses built without approval were demolished under the National Land Code 1965 to prevent further encroachment, use or development of state land without permission,” he said.
He stressed that the state government would continue taking strict action against individuals or parties found occupying state land or constructing buildings without approval.
“All enforcement actions are carried out according to the law and established procedures to protect public interest and safeguard the sovereignty of state land,” he said.
The integrated operation also involved the Tanah Merah District Council, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Immigration Department, National Security Council, Public Works Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd.
Hilmi added that the Tanah Merah Land and District Office would continue strengthening joint enforcement operations to prevent illegal occupation and misuse of state land.
