KPDN: Consumers Have Right To Watch Chicken Weighing Process

Date:

Consumers have the right to observe the weighing process of chicken during transactions to avoid being overcharged or misled on pricing, says the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

Kelantan KPDN director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said the ministry has received complaints from the public alleging that some traders are obstructing customers from viewing weighing scales during sales.

He also said there have been cases where the displayed price on weighing machines did not reflect the actual weight through various manipulative practices.

“So far this year, we have received 29 complaints related to chicken traders, and through enforcement actions and continuous monitoring, 60 cases have been recorded for legal action,” he said.

He added that 49 of the cases involved offences under the Weights and Measures Act for using unverified or expired weighing instruments.

Another seven cases involved failure to display price tags under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

He said this after conducting a monitoring visit at a petrol station in Pengkalan Kubor in conjunction with Ops Tiris 4.0 (Integrated).

Hanif also said enforcement efforts have been intensified through Ops Kesan 6.0, which runs from June 1 to August 31, to ensure no price manipulation occurs in the supply chain.
