Kuala Krai Sees Two Fatal Motorcycle Accidents Within One Hour

Date:

Two men were killed in separate road accidents within less than an hour in Kuala Krai district last night.

In the first incident at about 10.04pm along Jalan Batu Balai–Mengkebang near Kampung Batu Balai, a 21-year-old Yamaha RXZ rider died at the scene after a collision involving a Honda Dash motorcycle.

Kuala Krai District Police Chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the Honda Dash rider, aged 45, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra (HSIP) in Kuala Krai.

He said preliminary investigations found both motorcycles were travelling from Kampung Mengkebang towards Batu Balai.

Upon reaching the location, the Honda Dash rider in front was believed to have made a sudden right turn, causing the rider behind on the Yamaha RXZ to be unable to avoid a collision.

The RXZ rider was confirmed dead at the scene, while the injured motorcyclist was sent to hospital for treatment and the victim’s body was sent for post-mortem.

In a second incident at 11.22pm at Kilometre 81 of the Kota Bharu–Gua Musang road near Kampung Peria, a 30-year-old Yamaha 135LC rider was killed after colliding with a cow.

Mazlan said the victim was riding alone from Kampung Lepan Jenut towards Kuala Krai when the accident occurred.

Preliminary findings showed that the cow suddenly crossed the road, leaving the rider unable to avoid the impact.

The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene before being sent to HSIP Kuala Krai for further action.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police have urged witnesses or those with information to come forward to assist investigations, while also reminding road users to exercise caution, especially at night.

He also advised livestock owners to ensure their animals are not left roaming on roads, as it poses serious danger to motorists and can lead to fatal accidents.
