Police have launched an investigation into allegations of child neglect involving a kindergarten in Langkawi after the issue went viral on social media.
Langkawi District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said the report was believed to have been lodged by a teacher who was dismissed from the kindergarten last Wednesday.
He said the allegations included claims that children were left sleeping on the floor without mattresses and that some children were allegedly locked inside a toilet.
“Based on preliminary investigations, no parents have so far reported that their children suffered any injuries,” he said.
Khairul Azhar said police are currently focusing on verifying the accuracy of the allegations through closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings and statements from witnesses.
He added that investigations are still ongoing to determine whether any offences had occurred.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
