A lorry driver was fined RM11,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to two charges of transporting livestock without approval from the Perak Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) director in February.
The accused, Mohd Syafiq Aiman Amir, 30, admitted to the offences after the charges were read before Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Nor Azlan.
He was also warned that failure to pay the fines could result in imprisonment of up to four months for each offence.
Based on the charges, Mohd Syafiq was accused of transporting 119 goats using a lorry without written permission from the Perak DVS director or an authorised officer at the East-West Highway in Hulu Perak at about 3.30am on Feb 8, 2026.
He faced another charge for moving 15 cattle using the same method at the East-West Highway near Restoran Bondaku, Hulu Perak, at about 2.40am on Feb 27, 2026.
The court imposed a RM6,500 fine for the first offence, with an additional five-month jail term if the accused failed to settle the payment.
For the second charge, Mohd Syafiq was fined RM5,000 or face four months’ imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of proceeds from the sale of the livestock amounting to RM35,887.50 and RM36,750 for the respective offences to the government.
The prosecution was conducted by DVS prosecuting officer Roziman Awang Tahrin, while the accused was represented by lawyer Muhammad Zaem Ab Aziz.
